Introduction
The year 1974 marked the inception of Lokmanya Hospitals. With its humble beginnings as a 10 bedded hospital, this was a small medical unit manned by two full time specialists, Dr. V.G.Vaidya, General Surgeon, Dr. S.M.K. Hussainy, General Physician, and 2 associate doctors providing quality medical care to the residents of Pimpri and Chinchwad area, who otherwise travelled all the way to Pune for any medical aid.
Today, in its 30th year, Lokmanya Hospitals have covered new ground and has an impressive track record of timely medical care, accurate diagnostic services, progress and constant upgrading of facilities. The result is a state-of-the-art, centrally located medical centre, offering a large range of services to a wide spectrum of people in search of health care.
Lokmanya Hospitals have evolved into an almost new identity. This is owing to a process of constant updation that has resulted in the total transformation of Lokmanya Hospitals from a small hospital to a force to be reckoned with. A valuable tie-up with an international hospital chain in Sweden has facilitated the training of its core and nursing staff in round the clock medical care particularly in ICU, CCU and Trauma Care. Lokmanya's tie-up with Intercity Consultants Hyderabad has infused new life into the everyday workings of the hospital with their rich experience in management of Quality Diagnostics and In-Patient care. In fact it has been with the guidance of Intercity Consultants that the project has unfolded from concept to completion. And there have been other changes as well an expert team of interior designers has given both the facade and interiors a new look, thereby enhancing the infrastructure.
Lokmanya now holds no traces of its simple past. In fact, Lokmanya Hospitals have undergone a metamorphosis into International Standard Cardiac Care Centre (Lokmanya Heart Institute) under the guidance of Dr. V. G. Vaidya, Managing Trustee and Dr. M. S. Hiremath, Director Cardiac Centre with facilities of Hi – tech Cardiac Cath Lab (Philips Integris 5000), Facilities for Angio – graphy, Angio – plasty, Open – heart Surgery, Advanced arterial grafting, Octopus off pump Surgeries, Aortic balloon pump required for Cardiogenic Shock, Cardiac Stress tread mill and all Pathological and diagnostic tests.
Lokmanya Hospital located at Nigdi, has been upgraded to Level I Trauma Care Centre. This is 100 bedded hospital equipped with most modern diagnostic equipments like MRI Scan, CT Scan, EEG and 2-D Echo, EMG, digital X-Ray, USG, C-ARM, computerized Pathology Department, Emergency Medical Services Department is equipped with 14 Mobile Trauma and Critical care units (This is first of its kind in India) designed indigenously taking into consideration of Indian traffic scenario. The MTCCU are manned with ATLS and BLS trained doctors & EMT. These units have proved its worthiness during Gujarat Earthquake 2001, Mandradevi stamped and recent floods in Pune district.
Lokmanya Hospital Chakan 50 bedded hospital our third unit is coming up at chakan along the National Highway No 50 as Level II trauma centre and rural hospital.
In the recent past of 31 years Lokmanya have saved the lives of scores of patients suffering from Heart-attacks, Poisoning, Snake bites, Factory accidents, Paralysis and Electric shocks and Polytrauma.
"Occupational accidents and diseases remain the most appalling human tragedy of modern industry and one of its most serious forms of economics waste. In some highly industrialised countries industrial accidents are responsible for the loss of 4 to 5 times as many working days as industrial disputes. In certain cases the cost is Comparable to national defence."
These lines of Francis Blanchard D.G.I.L.O. became the genies of establishing a dedicated centre for occupational health and research centre.
Lokmanya Medical Research Centre was established in the year 1984.Lokmanya Medical Research Centre is a recognised Scientific & Industrial Research Organisation which is committed to alleviating human suffering caused by disease.LMRC is engaged in advancement of research pertaining to Occupational Health Industrial Safety,Environmental Health & carrying out basic and applied research in concerned systems and disciplines.With an following objective given as under. The Lokmanya Medical Research Centre has conducted various research in the field of medicine and under taken various socially oriented programmes like developing various IEC material and screening of Audio Visuals on Industrial Safety, First Aid Training Programme, AIDS, Cancer, Family Planning, Road Safety etc. The Centre is recognised and approved by Central and State Government and affiliated to University of Pune.
After the successful launch of Lokmanya Medical Foundation in 1975 the need to give medical education to the students of PCMC area was felt by Dr. V. G. Vaidya and Dr. S. A. Katekari. In 1983 one Homoeopathic OPD was started in the premises of Lokmanya Hospital, Chinchwad. This OPD got good response from the people in general from in and around Pimpri-Chinchwad area. Considering this best response it was thought of starting a Homoeopathic Medical College, which will impart scientific knowledge about Homoeopathy to the students allover Maharashtra. With lot of efforts of Dr.V.G.Vaidya, Dr.S.A.Katewkari and Dr.Hussainy on 18th September 1984 the dream came true when LMF Homoeopathic Medical College was started.
In very short duration the college became popular amongst the students community because of best clinical material available in Lokmanya Hospital & College.In the year 1989 degree course was started and the college was affiliated to University of Pune.
In 1998 a separate university was started in Maharashtra state to which all the medical & paramedical courses were affiliated. LMF Homoeopathic Medical College also got affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences situated at Nashik. The college imparts training to around 350 medical students studying every year. The institute is recognised by the University of Pune and its students are front rankers in merits among the University results.
